The new NIUKU
If we had to define the NIUKU brand in a few words, it would be conscious clothing that expresses a certain paradoxical yet coherent nature.
Originally created by Kadiata Diallo, NIUKU is a unisex brand inspired by the designer's tomboy spirit. Each piece is unique and imposes its presence through classic, minimalist cuts.
The omnipresence of the color orange, as a thread running through the collections, signifies peace and enlightenment in India. In the United States, orange represents oppression. A double meaning that reflects the name NIUKU.
After opening up to the Nippon market in 2016, the NIUKU founder took part in the ANDAM finals in 2017 in the Creative Label section, which enabled her to be featured in January 2018 in the official Men's Fashion Week calendar as a Young Designer.
Winner of Maison Mode Méditerranée's Fashion Booster Campus 2018, Kadiata Diallo reflects on the brand's future. Aware that the previous team was turning away from the brand's original vision, she decided on a return to the origins, as a veritable journey of initiation.
The name NIUKU comes from the expression "Niuku Djawal", which in Fulani means "very reserved hospitality". Behind this name lies the story of the designer's paternal grandmother, one of the first women in West Africa to carve out a place for herself in an all-male society. An emblematic figure for the designer, she inherited the name and a shared passion for the world of textiles and printed fabrics.
Today, this heritage is more firmly anchored thanks to the brand's new positioning, in line with its return to its origins through unique fabrics that represent the new Niuku.
NIUKU's aim is to create a real bridge between French savoir-faire and the futuristic African Touch in the unisex section of the fashion industry, a bridge designed to combine luxury, modernity and ethnicity.
The back to the origins of NIUKU project
After relocating to her native country, Kadiata Diallo reinterprets the brand through capsule collections that express the initial soul of the name by integrating her African heritage through the creation of unique fabrics, always in search of noble materials.
The paradoxical aspect of a garment that is classic yet unique, unisex and unique to each individual, expresses the NIUKU universe that offers timeless pieces in a world where fashion never changes.
NIUKU considers itself unique and adaptable to any wardrobe, thanks to its conscious garment aspect, which can be appropriated to shake up gender codes.
