MUCEM

Through 150 objects and works dating from the 19th century to the present day, the MUCEM's new exhibition showcases jewelry, ceramics, videos, installations, sculptures and archives from the Amazigh peoples. "Amazighes", whose name has been deliberately feminine and pluralized to give the exhibition its title, focuses first and foremost on the power of female figures such as the mother goddesses.

The Fonds de Dotation Maison Mode Méditerranée, patron of the exhibition, is also proud to see the designer and 2010 winner Amina Agueznay exhibit a monumental work Taga (Waha, palm grove). 4 months of work, 240 kg of wool, 14 seamstresses and crocheters. A pioneer of textile art and sculptural jewelry, the Moroccan designer meets with independent weavers who are key players in the process of transmission. The work, here crocheted and hand-stitched in natural-dyed wools, stands masterfully at the exhibition entrance, over 3 m high.

In 2021, for Maison Mode Méditerranée, Amina Agueznay spoke with Saveria Mendella and Khémaïs Ben Lakhdar. The artist talked about her commitment, the transmission of marriage and her attachment to MMM. In 2010, the year she won the Open My Med Prize, she created a necklace, a unique piece offered to Maison Mode Méditerranée, which donated it to the Marseille Fashion Museum. In 2013, it was exhibited in Marseille as part of its year as European Capital of Culture. Read the full article below.
