ARCHIVES - THE MMM PRIMER: MISSION MODE: JC DE CASTELBAJAC

In 2016, the Musée de la Mode, directed by Christine Germain-Donnat, and co-produced with Capitaine Géraud Seznec of the Musée de la Légion Etrangère, offers a cross-disciplinary look at military clothing, reinterpreted by couturiers and designers such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Meknes and, Jean Charles de Castelbajac, who made a major contribution to this exhibition.

Beyond the stylistic writing that can be read in their collection, it is above all a manifesto of freedom inspired by two imaginary worlds, masculine and feminine, within which androgyny and militancy coexist. A contemporary wardrobe that evokes male-female equality! Castelbajac says: "It's my cornerstone, because my history is a jacket that's completely squared off, very structural, with two pockets, close to a military parka, extremely simplified. I always design it by integrating this notion of function and detail. With the Castelbajacs, you take the sword. I chose the needle." He has always encouraged fashion culture in Marseille, a city he particularly loves.
