2010 Sathal Creatures
The planet Mars(eille) has one of the most famous stars of contemporary French couture:
Fred Sathal. His collections, presented in Paris, highlight his dreamlike, poetic universe. Faithful to the conception of the one-piece cut, acquired in the workshop of theater costume designer Geneviève SevinDoering, each of his models, unique pieces, is inspired by his travels, his readings or collaborations with artists, such as photographer Patricia Guidiccelli or CarlitoDalceggioadèpte of body painting. Fred's first creative act involves her work as a visual artist: she chooses her textile materials, leathers, sequins, sequins, lace, steam-dyed silks... the second act is then creative and impulsive: she sculpts, customizes, assembles, laces, sews and stitches.
It's only natural that the Musée de la Mode should close its 20-year presence on the Canebière in 2010 with two major exhibitions, "Fred Sathal Creatures" and "Fred Sathal mon Antre", underlining an extraordinary career.
At the age of 30, Fred designed all the costumes for Luc Plamandon and Richard Cocciante's musical "Notre Dame de Paris", which had its world premiere on September 17, 1988, and I stood in awe of the originality and perfect mastery of the 110 models she had designed and sewn in her apartment, some of which were dyed in her bathtub.
Each model signed Fred Sathal stands the test of time and remains an artistic, desirable, poetic and committed work of art..
